HB 62 would require a physician who prescribes the abortion pill or a referring physician to inform the pregnant patient orally and in writing that after taking an abortifacient pill, a chemical abortion may be possibly reversed.

The bill would require a physician or qualified health professional to provide the following information immediately prior to administering the drug Mifepristone to a pregnant patient:

  • That it is still possible to discontinue a drug-induced abortion by not taking the prescribed Misoprostol and taking progesterone to reverse the effects of the Mifepristone; and
  • Information on how, where, and from whom individuals can obtain assistance in discontinuing a drug-induced abortion is available on the Department of Health and Human Services’ Internet Web site.

Additionally, immediately prior to administering the drug Misoprostol (the second step of a drug-induced abortion), the physician or qualified professional would need to provide medical proof to the patient that fetal death has occurred.

The bill would require the Department of Health and Human Services to provide the same information on the department’s website.
