COLOR is a sisterhood of Latinas deedicated to building a movment of Latinas, thier families, and allies through leadership development, organizing and advocacy to create opportunity to achieve reproductive justice.
In many ways, Latino views on reproductive health put us at the forefront of efforts to find a constructive public dialogue regarding abortion. Latinos want the conversation in the states and nationally to be less judgmental and less stigmatizing, both in our language and our treatment of a woman making the decision about whether or not to end a pregnancy.
Gina Milan, a fearless, powerful and strong immigrant woman and single mother of a beautiful passionate and intelligent 1 year old moved to the US in 1998. She has shared with us, in spanish, her perspective of access to reproductive health services as an immigrant woman.
There was not question in my mind about what I had to do. “I’m pregnant and I can’t have this baby…” She said with a tremble in her voice. I looked into her eyes, embraced her with understanding and love.
