2008 Democratic Candidates Mighty Debate

Amie Newman

Our illustrious Democratic candidates debated last night. Predictably all opposed the Supreme Court ruling but where are the proactive strategies for ensuring women's reproductive rights?

Our Democratic candidates for the next presidency of the United States powered through last night's debate. They all expressed criticism of the recent Supreme Court decision to retain the abortion ban. Despite his anti-choice voting record prior to the 2004 presidential run, Dennis Kucinich even went so far as to proclaim "Any of my appointments to the high court would necessarily reflect my thinking."

We'll need more than vague posturing in order to retain women's reproductive freedom in the coming years though; we'll need leadership that is willing to clean up the anti-choice debris left in the wake of the Bush administration by implementing new legislation and policies that actually take care of women.
