Oklahoma Coalition for Reproductive Justice v. Cline

SUMMARY

The Center for Reproductive Rights filed a lawsuit in state court on behalf of a health-care provider and a reproductive justice non-profit organization challenging an Oklahoma law, HB 2684, which requires physicians to ignore decades of medical research, the opinion of leading medical organizations, and their own clinical experience, and instead administer medication abortion drugs according to an outdated and inferior regimen.

STATUS

On October 29, 2014, the Oklahoma County district court denied Plaintiff’s request for a preliminary injunction blocking the law. Plaintiffs appealed the ruling to the Oklahoma Supreme Court which temporarily blocked enforcement of the law on November 4, 2014, pending resolution of the litigation.

On August 10, 2015, an Oklahoma state judge ruled that the law violated the Oklahoma state constitution’s prohibition against special laws.
