HB 101 would prohibit abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy except to preserve the life and health of the pregnant individual.

The bill would amend TCA  Section 39-15-201(c)(2) by deleting the language “After three (3) months, but before the viability of the fetus,” and substituting instead the language “After three (3) months, but before twenty (20) weeks of pregnancy or viability of the fetus.”

The bill would amend  TCA  Section 39-15-201(c)(3) by deleting the language “During viability of the fetus” and substituting instead the language “After twenty weeks of pregnancy or during viability of the fetus.”

20 week bans are based on model legislation drafted by the National Right to Life Committee, as well as Americans United for Life.

Companion bill to SB 766.

Identical to HB 1758/SB 1770, which failed to pass in 2016.
