HB 287 would establish a professional school counselors pilot program to provide comprehensive counseling services in certain school districts with high incidences of teen pregnancy and school violence.

The stated purposes of the program is as follows:

“[…]to evidence the effectiveness of the services provided by professional school counselors in personal and social counseling, crisis intervention and prevention, conflict resolution and educational and career counseling in schools and school districts with counselors on staff, as opposed to those schools and school districts without counselors on staff.”

The bill prohibits any effort of a counselor to counsel students that abortion can be used to prevent the birth of a baby.
