Minnesota Bill Regarding the Human Rights Act and Gender-Specific Accommodations (HF 2553)

HF 2553 would add an exception to the Minnesota Human Rights Act for public and private employers by preventing claims of discrimination by an employee based on sexual orientation in regards to the use of restrooms.
The bill defines a person’s “sex” as biological. The bill states that “nontraditional identity” or “sexual orientation” may not override another person’s right of privacy based on biological sex.
The bill would require employer facilities to reserve restrooms, locker rooms, and dressing rooms for individuals based on their biological sex.
The bill would prohibit public schools and universities from allowing access to restrooms, locker rooms, and dressing rooms to students except on the basis of biological sex.
