SR 145 is a resolution commending Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, on his “continued commitment to emphasizing Christian family values throughout the country and increasing the influence of the organization on decisions made by Congress.”
The resolution states:
WHEREAS, Mr. Perkins’ views of the family have remained steadfast from his earliest days at the Louisiana Legislature and the principles of the covenant marriage law, believing in the sanctity of marriage and the traditional view of the roles of wife and husband; and
WHEREAS, Tony Perkins’ position on marriage as a sacred vow before God clashes head-on with the more liberal views that any two people can be married, including those of the same sex; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Perkins continues to preach a consistent message and urged the FRC to involve pastors in what Perkins and the FRC believe to be an assault on the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman.
The resolution goes on to highlight both his work in the Louisiana House of Representatives and FRC’s work on Capitol Hill.
The Family Research Council is an anti-choice and anti-LGBTQ organization that has been designated as a hate-group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
