HB 4257 would require that a physician who is to perform an abortion offer any patient seeking an abortion after 8 weeks gestation an opportunity to view an active ultrasound of the fetus, except in cases of medical emergency. The offer would need to be made prior to the patient having any part of an abortion performed or induced, and prior to the administration of any anesthesia or medication in preparation for the abortion.

The patient’s response to the offer must be documented, including the date and time of the offer, and signed by the patient as an attestation to their informed decision to accept or decline the offer.

If passed, the law would take effect immediately.
