HB 2683 would have created the Ultrasound Opportunity Act.  Physicians would have been required to offer any woman seeking an abortion after 7 weeks of gestation an opportunity to receive and view an active ultrasound before an abortion could be performed.  The woman’s response to the offer would have had to be documented by the facility and signed by the patient.  If the physician determined there was a medical emergency, the requirements of the Act would not have applied.

HB 2683 also required data from abortion facilities to be compiled by the Illinois Department of Public Health.  In addition to the date and facility name, the data should have included: the number of women who chose to view an ultrasound and the number of woman who did not; and the number of woman that went on to obtain an abortion.
