S 1243 would require the department of health and welfare to provide additional informed consent materials to physicians, hospitals, or other facilities providing abortion services.

Abortion Reversal

The additional materials would be required to include information directing the patient where to obtain further information and assistance in locating a health-care provider whom they can consult about chemical abortion, including the interventions, if any, that may affect the effectiveness or reversal of a chemical abortion, and informs the patient that if they want to consult with such health-care providers, they should contact those health-care providers before they take the abortifacient.

Ultrasound

The additional materials would also need to include a statement that the patient has a right to view an ultrasound image and to observe the heartbeat monitoring of the fetus. Current law requires the statement to read that the patient has a right to hear the heart tone, as opposed to viewing it.
