HB 6159 would require insurance coverage of all contraceptive drugs, devices and other products approved by the federal Food and Drug Administration, including, but not limited to, over-the-counter contraceptives.  The bill would prohibit employers that offer prescription drug coverage from excluding coverage for prescription contraceptive methods approved by the federal FDA.

The bill includes an exemption for religious employers, who would be required to disclose to their employees that they do not provide insurance coverage for such contraceptive methods.

HB 6159 would also require closely held for-profit employers to disclose to all current and prospective employees if they have coverage limitations for employees for services other than prescription contraceptive methods that are derived from the beliefs of their principal shareholders.
