HJR 32 would propose an amendment to the Alaska State Constitution to allow the legislature to require notice to and consent of the parent or legal guardian of a minor’s pregnancy before an abortion.

The amendment would state:

This constitution does not prohibit the legislature or the people from requiring notice to and the consent of the parent or legal guardian of a minor before the minor’s pregnancy is terminated. The legislature shall implement this section by law in a manner consistent with the requirements of the Constitution of the United States, and the people may implement this section by initiative in a manner consistent with the requirements of the Constitution of the United States.

If passed, the amendment would be presented to the voters of Alaska at the next general election in 2018.
