Mary Tuma

Mary Tuma is a Texas-based freelance journalist who focuses on reproductive rights and social justice issues. She contributes to the Texas capital’s alt-weekly The Austin Chronicle, where she previously served as news editor and reporter. Tuma also worked as a reporter for the alt-weekly San Antonio Current and for the Texas Independent and the American Independent News Network, where she covered reproductive rights. Her work has been published in VICE, The Texas Observer, The Progressive, Ms. Magazine, The Huffington Post, and Salon.

Tuma received the 2015 Lilith Fund Reproductive Equity Truth Award and the 2017 NARAL Pro-Choice Texas Stigma Buster Award for her women’s health coverage. Tuma holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in media studies from The University of Texas at Austin.
