Kai Gurley

Abortion Access Project

Kai Gurley is the Institutional Giving Officer at the Abortion Access Project. Kai is a Southern Feminist activist and reproductive justice advocate with over eight years experience in institutional fundraising. Prior to joining the staff at AAP, Kai was the Development Coordinator for the SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective from 2005 – 2010. Kai also served on the board of the Third Wave Foundation from 2007 – 2012. Originally from Georgia, Kai currently lives in the woods outside of Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

“Coming Out” on Abortion: Who Wins?

The current buzz within the abortion rights movement seems to be that we need to take a lesson from the gay rights movement – that people need to start “coming out” with their abortion stories. But we should remember with all of the culture change that the LGBTQ community has seen, stigma and violence are still perpetrated every day.
