Julie Burkhart worked side by side with Dr. George Tiller for eight years, first as Chair of the Wichita Choice Alliance and later as a spokesperson for his clinic and the CEO of ProKanDo, the PAC he founded in 2002. She carries on Dr. Tiller’s vision as the Founder and Executive Director of Trust Women PAC. In addition to other political and reproductive rights work, Ms. Burkhart was at ground zero during the infamous Summer of Mercy, as she worked at the Wichita Women’s Center that was heavily targeted by Operation Rescue, the Lambs of Christ and other anti-choice extremists. Ms. Burkhart was inspired by the feminist movement of the 1970’s and has dedicated her life’s work to the protection of reproductive freedom.
Governor Brownback has established the Office of the Repealer to help rid Kansas of “unreasonable, unduly burdensome, duplicative, onerous or conflicting laws.” My organization was able to think of just a few recent laws that are extremely unreasonable, duplicative, and overly burdensome to hard-working women and families.
In light of the stigma, marginalization and demonization faced by abortion care providers, it is incumbent upon us women’s rights advocates to reflect on the positive impact their services bring to individual lives and society as a whole.

Every day, I’m grateful to all the women who fought so tenaciously for universal suffrage; we are the beneficiaries of their vision for a better world. I’m grateful to my great grandmother for helping me understand civic responsibility and the tenuousness of our rights if we do not remain diligent. Without our foremothers, we would not have gained the rights we enjoy today. Yet even today, millions of women do not enjoy these same rights.
What anti-choice advocates don't like about Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, leading candidate for HHS Secretary, is that she is pro-reproductive health. What they ignore is that she is a strong advocate for children's health and preventive care.
Senator Sam Brownback does not believe abortion should be legal in any circumstances - not even for victims of rape or incest. But this time he's introduced a bill that has some folks scratching their heads.
Kansas District Attorney Phill Kline's charges against Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri in Overland Park, Kansas, are part of another attack on women's rights. He just can't seem to stop harassing women and doctors.
