Jessica Ensley is a writer, comedian and feminist extraordinaire. She earned a Bachelor of Science from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University as well as a certificate in Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies. She was previously an organizer on campus for groups such as FuckRapeCulture, Blue Pencil Comedy and the Female Comedy Workshop. She has most recently served with the Maine Conservation Corps through AmeriCorps.

The practice of using feminine pronouns (often in a sexually suggestive way) to refer to things such as tools, cars, and even boats is fairly common—so common that many people do not stop to question what they are actually saying, which is that women are objects. This underlying message in our language is reflective of how our society treats women.
