Dearest friends,

As 2016 comes to a close, many of us are feeling both relief and dread: relief that a year during which we have collectively experienced so much pain and turmoil is coming to an end, and dread that 2017 will bring us more of the same and possibly even worse. We at Rewire fear that the most vulnerable will become targets of their own government; that those who are struggling economically will be left further behind; and that the rights of women, people of color, immigrants, LGBTQ people, Muslims, and anyone else who is “different” than what those in power consider the “norm” will be decimated. We fear for the health and rights of all people, and for the health and sustainability of the environment and ecosystems on which we all depend.

I am not and never have been one to sugarcoat reality. It’s not in my own constitution, so to speak.

I am, however, both a realist and an optimist, a pragmatist and a dreamer. It’s my own way of dealing with the reality of an imperfect world in which the struggle for justice must always continue.

We will continue to contribute to the struggle by providing evidence-based and unapologetic journalism. Our staff is made up of some of the most dedicated reporting, editing, media and communications, technology, and financial professionals you will or can find anywhere.

And together we wish you the following: a wonderful, joyous, peaceful holiday, whatever your background or beliefs, and a pledge that we will meet you in 2017 ready to fight by publishing the best work we possibly can.

With love and strength,

Jodi
