Florida Republican Cliff Stearns is anti-abortion.  He thinks he probably made that clear when he opened a federal investigation into Planned Parenthood, claiming that they were using taxpayer funds for abortions, in order to provide cover for the conservative push to ban all funding of the group and coerce nonprofits into refusing to fund the organization as well. 

Now, just to be sure everyone understands that abortion is a really, really bad thing to do, the conservative Congressman is proposing jail time if a woman terminates a pregnancy.

Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-FL) unwilling admitted to MSNBC’s Chris Matthews on Friday afternoon that he believed women who receive abortions should face criminal charges. “I think the punishment should certainly be very serious,” he said. “It should be more than a civil case. It should be something very serious”:

MATTHEWS: So it should be a criminal matter for the woman as well as the doctor?

STEARNS: I think so. You are killing an embryo and in some cases you are killing an embryo that is four or five months into gestation.
