LensCrafters to Bachmann: Stop Using Our Name

The eyecare center is asking the congresswoman to please leave them out of her abortion rhetoric.

LensCrafters got a little unwanted public relations attention this week as Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann began using them in a recycled Iowa stump speech.

Recycling a 2008 misquote claiming Planned Parenthood wanted to be the “LensCrafters of big abortion,” Bachmann tried to compare the reproductive health services group to the eyecare center.  The business, however, found the comparison less than flattering and asked Bachmann to please desist.

Via CNN:

Bachmann has been substituting the phrase “big abortion” with “family planning,” but the eye care company has asked that she leave them out of her scuffle altogether.

LensCrafters hit back at Bachmann Tuesday, telling Roll Call, “She’s using our name without our knowledge or permission.” Julie Maslov, communications director for Luxottica Retail, the parent company for LensCrafters, said the company contacted Bachmann’s office Tuesday and asked that she stop making the comparison.

As I noted here earlier, Bachmann’s been using the line for years, but apparently it took a potential presidential run for anyone to notice and catch her in her lies.

Bachmann has agreed to stop using the line in her speeches, but I doubt she’ll be receiving campaign donations from LensCrafters regardless.
