UPDATED: Livetweeting a Home Birth

One woman's labor and birth process unfolding live on Twitter - right now.

This post was updated at 9:32 am ET on Tuesday, March 30th.

Now, as in right now, Andria Stanley is livetweeting her labor and (lack of) contractions as she plans a homebirth to welcome her third child into the world:

I’m okay. At Walgreens getting puppy food right now. Still no contractions, but still leaking amniotic fluid.

The Facebook cause “Home birth is not a crime” raises money for the Seattle Midwifery School and alerted me to the live-tweeting.

Stanley, the mother of two children already, lives in Texas. She has planned the home birth for awhile, and despite the “grimaces” and confusion of some of her friends, she’s clear in her resolve. In fact, she quite informatively lists some of what she’ll need on hand prior to the birth on her blog. It’s this kind of information sharing that demystifies home birth for a lot of women, I think.

2 fitted/1 flat sheet
5 old bath towels, 5 washcloths
5-6 receiving blankets
diapers, diaper wipes
baby clothing and socks
2 kitchen size trash can liners
small table near the bed to set up supplies
1 small unopened bottle of olive oil
crock-pot

If you’re wondering what the olive oil and crock-pot are for, you’ll have to read her blog.

For now, if you’re interested in knowing what one woman’s labor and birth process looks like, follow Andria (@AndriaStanley) on Twitter. Congratulations to Andria as she looks toward welcoming her new babe into the world!

UPDATE: Andria had ner baby early this morning and annouced her baby’s birth with her latest tweet:

Born at 631, after 3 hrs of labor. Perfect. Details coming soon.
