Take Action for International Women’s Day

What would you do to help women this International Women's Day? Click a button? Watch a video? What if that's all you had to do to improve women's lives?

As International Women’s Day approaches I’ve started to see some discussion about this year’s theme: Equal Rights, Equal Opportunity. Plans are being made, celebrations laid out, the UN’s Commission on the Status of Women is meeting this week. But when talking about rights and opportunity, I immediately think of the millions of women around the world who lack access to reproductive health care—a basic human right.

Women like Mariam Mukbel in Yemen. A Pathfinder staffer said, “Mariam wears the lines of pregnancy on her face. Although she estimates her age between 30 and 35, when she removes her face veil, she looks closer to 50 or 55.” That’s because Mariam has had a child every year or two since she was married at age 20. Of the eight children she has given birth to, three died before she could have her next.

What kinds of rights and opportunities has Mariam had? Or will her children have?

That’s why Pathfinder has launched a challenge this International Women’s Day: 200 Thousand for 200 Million. The goal is to reach 200,000 video shares on www.Girl2Woman.org to raise awareness about the 200 million women who want, but lack access to modern contraceptives. There are six videos showing the need for reproductive health care at every point in life—from girl to woman. For every video shared on www.Girl2Woman.org, a generous donor is giving $1 to support reproductive health care services in the developing world.

So what are you waiting for? Take a stand for reproductive rights this International Women’s Day. Visit www.Girl2Woman.org and start sharing the videos with friends, colleagues, and family! Help us reach out ambitious goal of 200,000 shares and together we can help ensure a brighter, healthier, future for women and girls around the world.
