The American Civil Liberties Union, NARAL
Pro-Choice America, National Women’s Law Center, Planned Parenthood
Action Fund and others today released a survey showing that knowledge of Barack Obama’s and Joe Biden’s pro-choice positions tended to increase a voter’s likelihood of supporting the ticket. Large majorities recognized the differences between the Obama/Biden position on abortion, birth control, and sex ed and that of Republican nominees John McCain and Sarah Palin.

In a statement, the groups say, "The
survey’s findings dispute the long-held conventional wisdom that
self-described pro-life voters are more intense in their support of candidates
who share their views." An election eve survey of 1,200 voters found that 39 percent were much more likely to support a pro-choice ticket, while only 19 percent were much less likely to support a pro-choice ticket.
